ABOUT RL TUCKER

A storyteller

RL Tucker is a painter and storyteller from Tidewater, Virginia. His work moves with rhythm and breath, guided by emotion, movement, and color. Rooted in the lived experiences and cultural memory of Southern Black American life, his paintings honor presence, dignity, and the spirit within the figure.

“I am seeking. I am striving.
I am in it with all my heart.”

Vincent van Gogh

What he paints is not just what is seen, but what is felt.

He works primarily in oils, soft pastels, and charcoal, building images that feel alive; figures emerging from shadow, light shaping the body like music shapes a dancer. His compositions carry motion; his color harmonies carry mood; his lines hold story.

Influenced by Old Master craftsmanship, Post-Impressionistic color exploration, Soul music, and Southern memories; RL creates images that are both grounded in history and reaching forward into myth. The work is an act of restoration of identity, of lineage, of self.
